Privacy Policy: Boston Catholic Television Center Inc. a.k.a The CatholicTV Network, iCatholic (Media), Your Catholic Broadband Network, CatholicTV

This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes the privacy practices applicable to iCatholic Media, Inc. (a/k/a CatholicTV) (“we, “our,” or “CatholicTV”), including the website at www.catholictv.org, the mobile app known as CatholicTV, and other sites or applications that are under our control if we post the Policy to the site or application (collectively, “Sites”).  The Policy explains how personal information about you may be collected, used, and disclosed by us. 

 

1. Acceptable Users

You must be at least 18 years old or the age of majority to enter into a contract under applicable law, whichever is older, to use the Sites. CatholicTV does not knowingly collect any information from persons under the age of 13. If we learn that a posting is by a person under the age of 13, we will remove that post. If you become aware that we have collected personal information from a minor without parental or guardian consent, please notify us at socialmedia@catholictv.org and we will delete such information from our records.

2. Data We Collect and Uses of Data

We collect and receive personal information from a variety of sources and in a variety of ways, including those listed below. Personal information means information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. Personal information does not include information that has been deidentified, pseudonymized or anonymized to the extent permitted by applicable law.

We may collect your name, address, phone number and email address for purposes such as, but not limited to, accepting donations or prayers from you, providing you subscription services, responding to your inquiries and other contacts, processing your commendations or feedback on programming, providing you CatholicTV advertising and marketing materials, providing you updates for new events, improving the Sites and our services, for compliance purposes and legal obligations, and other matters. We may also collect personal information about service providers we engage and applicants who apply for employment with us. We may obtain personal information about you from third parties, including entities that direct you to or are accessible via the Sites, and other partners.

We may collect personal information if you provide comments on the Sites or if you contact us directly. Please do not post any personal information on the Sites that you do not intend to make public. Search engines and other sites not affiliated with CatholicTV – including, but not limited to archive.org, google.com, and groups.yahoo.com – may archive or otherwise make available CatholicTV postings. We have no control over such sites.

If any Sites are accessible through third-party social networking sites and you use such features, we may have access to certain information associated with your social media account such as your name, email address and photograph. If you are a member of the social networking site, the social networking site may connect your visit to the Sites with your personal information.

CatholicTV does not store credit card information. We may use third parties, such as PayPal, to process credit card transactions. When you submit payment through these third parties, your personal information is also subject to the privacy policies of such third parties and you should review the those third party policies before submitting your information. We endeavor to protect the security of your payment information during transmission by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology.

Our web logs collect standard web log entries for each page served, including your IP address, page URL, device and browser used, and timestamp. Web logs help us to diagnose problems with our server, to administer the Sites, and to otherwise provide our service to you. When you visit the Sites, we may place or authorize third parties to place a cookie on your computer or device. Cookies are small files of information that are stored on your computer or device. We and third parties may also use other types of tracking technologies, such as web beacons, HTML5 and Flash Local Storage. Cookies may help the Sites operate more efficiently and may improve your experience with the Sites by performing functions like allowing the Sites to recognize you when you return. We also use cookies for analytical purposes, such as counting how many unique visitors have accessed the Sites. You may delete cookies from your computer or set your browser to reject cookies. However, deleting or blocking some cookies may limit some functionalities of the Sites. In addition, blocking or deleting browser cookies may not block other types of cookies. The use of cookies and similar technologies by third parties at or through the Sites is subject to those parties’ privacy policies, not our policy. We use Google Analytics to analyze site usage. Third parties may also use cookies and similar technologies to collect information at or through the Sites and other websites for a variety of purposes, including providing you with advertisements. This type of ad-customization is sometimes referred to as interest-based advertising and is based on the websites you visit. We use Google Ads on the Sites. If you would like more information about your choices concerning interest-based advertising, including how you may opt-out of some uses of information collected by members of the Network Advertising Initiative (“NAI”) and the Digital Advertising Alliance (“DAA”) that may collect information at or through Catholic TV, please visit NAI’s site here and DAA’s site here. The Sites do not respond to “Do Not Track” or other automated signals on browsers.

You are not obligated to provide us with your personal information in all of the cases described above. However, without your personal information, we may not be able to fulfill all of the functions described above. For example, we will not be able to provide you with a subscription to our magazine without your email address. 

 

3. Circumstances in which CatholicTV may Disclose Personal Information

In addition to the circumstances described in Section 2, your personal information may be shared with third parties as follows:

  • Your information may be shared with third parties that we engage to provide services to us. We may also provide your information to third parties that assist with the operation or maintenance of Sites, that provide us with analytic services, and other functions.
  • We may share with third parties information that has been deidentified or anonymized such that the third party cannot personally identify you from the information we share.
  • We may share or transfer your information if we enter into a business transaction such as a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of some or all of our assets, or in preparation for any of these events.
  • We may disclose your information if we believe that the Sites are being used to commit unlawful acts; if disclosure of your information is required to comply with applicable laws or regulations or with a court or administrative order or will help to enforce any applicable terms of use; to protect your safety or security, including the safety and security of property that belongs to you; or to protect the safety and security of the Sites or third parties.
  • We may share your information with other parties based on your consent.

4. Your Choices

You may request that we delete your information or rectify your inaccurate information by emailing us at socialmedia@catholictv.org We may ask you to verify your identity before responding to any requests. We may deny or limit the response to requests where we are unable to verify your identity or we suspect fraudulent or malicious activity. If you wish to opt-out of receiving marketing solicitations, please contact us at the email or postal address listed in Section 10. Even if you opt-out, we may still use and share the information we collect for non-marketing purposes. Each of our marketing emails includes an automated way for you to opt out (unsubscribe) from marketing emails sent by us. To unsubscribe, please follow the instructions in the email you receive.

5. Security

Although we employ technical and organizational controls that we believe are reasonably appropriate to protect your information, we do not guarantee that our security precautions will protect against the loss or misuse of your information. Similarly, we cannot guarantee the privacy of information you transmit over the Internet or that may be collected in transit by others, including contractors that provide services to us.

6. Other Websites and Links

The Sites may contain links to other websites. We are not responsible for the information collection or privacy practices of other websites. You should consult the privacy policies of other sites before you visit those sites or provide any information to those sites.

7. United States Policy/International Users

We are organized in the United States. Information provided in jurisdictions outside of the United States will be transferred to and processed in the United States and other locations. By providing us your information, you consent to the transfer to and processing of your information in the United States. We make no representation that the practices described in this Policy are compliant with laws outside of the United States that apply to the collection, security, use and disclosure of information. If you are located outside the United States, please be advised that some jurisdictions, such as the European Economic Area, do not consider the privacy protections in the United States to be adequate. When information is transferred to the United States, it will be handled in accordance with the laws of the United States.

8. Revisions to this Policy

We reserve the right to revise this Policy at any time. Please review this Policy periodically for changes and at any time you provide information to us. We will post any revised versions of the Policy on the Sites. We will also notify you if we make material changes to the Policy by posting a notice on the Sites or contacting you by other methods. By continuing to access or use the Sites after changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the terms of the revised Policy.
